This is not graded nor will it count toward class participation. I am just looking for feedback. I believe that all feedback is good, both good and bad comments, so please be honest.
I'm looking for your feelings on the course;
length of the class.
should it be longer than 8 weeks
topics covered
the mid term
group project
I talk too much
my stories are great :)
Whatever.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think this class should be longer than 8 weeks. Many students have taken excel classes prior to coming to college and many have had experience with excel in the past. I think this class should be offered as an online class. The webinar class that we had on the snow day was easy to follow and more convenient. The content of this class is not difficult if you pay attention and take the time to try to figure it out. The mid term was not extremely difficult. The hardest part was trying to memorize the different terms and trying to differentiate them. I think the group project is a good way to enforce the skills we've learned from class and implement into something we create on our own.
ReplyDeleteWith a 8 week course it is hard to cover so much information. The webinar we had on the snow day was time well spent and easy to follow along. The material covered is very useful and important! Since it was not mandatory to buy the excel book, maybe a quick outline or review sheet would be helpful to briefly map out the steps on how to do some of the more complicated tasks. I have enjoyed the class but maybe a longer session once a week would be better than twice a week for a shorter period of time.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is hard to cover so much in such a short time span, especially this semester with all of the snow. Overall I thought the midterm was fair and reflected what we went over in class and read in the book. I do think that the Excel homework assignments were the most difficult part of the course and it would help if we were somehow "forced" to do something on the computers while you teach the Excel lessons because for me personally I do not learn by just watching if it something like Excel. I do think the information we learn is very useful and applicable to future careers in business. As for the group project, I think this is such a relevant project that students could actually benefit from doing outside of the class just when looking at housing and other cost analysis things in life. Group projects can be annoying though because it is hard to find times where everyone can meet. Overall I think you are a great professor and the material is not too boring either.
ReplyDeleteI think the class is pretty good. I like the excel parts the most I think thats very useful and done well. I think an hour and fifty is long and its tough to pay attention for such a long time. Not because of the material or anything just because its 8 a.m and its just a long time. Other than that I like how the material is tested and assigned. I believe the course can be taught in 8 weeks and we will be fine with that. Your enthusiasm about the topics and the technologies help me relate and find it more interesting so I appreciate that. So basically my only complaint is the hour and fifty minutes I think an hour and twenty would get the job done as effectively because it would be easier to stay focused the whole time.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the class very much. It's tough to stay up at times since it starts at 8:00 AM. But I thought you did a great job of explaining the material, making real life examples which helped me understand the material a lot easier. I just wish the class was longer so we can go in depth with some of the topics such as databases unit. The midterm was straight forward, no trick questions. It just came so sudden since the class is only eight weeks long. I liked the Excel assignment which helped me reinforce what I learned in the lab. The group project does help us use what we learned in class from Excel but it's just a pain to get together and meet up with our hectic schedules. Plus, I feel that it's a lot with the final, group project, and Excel hands on final all in one week. But it does benefit since we won't have anything to do over the break. Overall, you're a great professor and want your students to do well in the class.
ReplyDeleteI truly think this class needs to be longer than 8 weeks. It is a short amount of time for the amount of material we cover. This course is also really important for future internships, etc. that we may have and I don't think we can possibly get a good understanding of the material in that short of time. Sometimes, I feel like I'm only learning the material for the exam and not gaining a good understanding of it. However, this course is very well taught. I enjoy hearing the real life examples provided because it makes it relevant to our lives. I think the topics covered are interesting and a good snapshot of what we should know. I think you do a great job of keeping us interested at 8am, which can be hard at times. Overall, I like the class, I just wish it was a little longer so I don't feel as though I am rushing through the assignments and group project.
ReplyDeleteI think that the class covers all the material very well given how short the course is. The one thing i really liked about the course was that the excel assignments, to me, really helped with learning excel.
